  • 1.5-2 million tonnes of waste generated in UK in 2006 and the hazardous waste and effluents associated with production.
  • 70 million tonnes of waste water generated in UK in 2006.
  • Toxicity fertiliser, pesticide and herbicide use.
  • 3.1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emitted from the UK clothing and textile sector as a whole in 2006 from washing, processing fibres and growing raw materials.
  • child labour, poor working conditions, low wages, health and safety risks are associated with production mostly in developing countries.

What can be done?

  • amoosi carefully selects high quality materials from charities such as Oxfam Wastesaver and small businesses in London which would otherwise be thrown away, downcycled or shipped abroad.
  • We produce luxury quality clothing and accessories made to last.

Our company policy

  • Use reclaimed and vintage materials to produce our collections.
  • Source and produce locally in order to avoid CO2 emissions associated with transportation. All our materials are sourced in England and our production takes place in Stratford, in East London.
  • Support education and research into sustainable design and production through our 'Skills for Sustainability' programme.
  • Support and promote young fashion designers, by providing opportunities at amoosi.
  • Reduce our environmental impact throughout our company operations.
  • Use packaging that can be re-used or recycled made from renewable sources.
  • Reduce energy consumption in the office through energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources.
  • Conduct our business travel by bicycle or public transport.
  • Awareness raising: participate in events and exhibitions to raise awareness of sustainable fashion.
  • Transparency: we produce an annual report of our environmental and social impacts.
